Vaccination in Society TodayHow does the vaccination affect both libertarian and consequentialist stances in society?

Individual rights are important, and people should not be used for the greater good of society, according to the libertarian viewpoint. Conflict over whether or not it is reasonable for employers and schools to demand all employees to be vaccinated is a recent news story that can put the libertarian position to the test. Allowing the government to mandate all enterprises and workplaces to impose vaccines on their workers may go against the will of the stakeholders themselves, posing a challenge for individual rights and the question of limiting the government's power. As a result, taking a libertarian approach to this issue will lead to criticism of the government for attempting to control individual liberties, as many people are still skeptical that these vaccines would be safe because they are so new and FDA clearance was so swift. Looking at this issue from a consequentialist perspective, on the other hand, will lead to first committing to this law and then waiting for statistics to indicate whether the result is effective or ineffective. As a result, consequentialists would embrace this notion and consider it a beneficial regulation of individuals' rights if requiring all workers, troop members, and teachers to be vaccinated lowers the covid case rates.

Taking the consequentialist position, because the Pfizer vaccine is not only completely approved by the FDA for people aged 16 and up, but it is also described by the president as "simple, safe, and effective," forcing employees and troop members to be vaccinated should not be a problem. To those consequentialists, this appears to be a simple matter because even if mandating vaccines goes against the will of some who are afraid of the possible side effects, if the overall results show that covid cases decrease, especially since it is reported as a 91 percent effective vaccine, then it is a good solution that should not be argued against. In contrast, from a libertarian perspective, there is not just the chance of side effects, which has led to many people being skeptical of the new vaccine, but even Pfizer's CEO has recognized that vaccines can have "a few negative effects."  This is also said to be the "quick approval FDA has ever given to medicine," which is all the more reason why people should have the freedom to choose whether or not to get vaccinated, and no one else should force them to do so.
