Should Schools Start Later?
À±ÇعΠ°³²Æ÷½ºÆ® Çлý±âÀÚ | ½ÂÀÎ 2022.04.26 20:47

It's been two years and five months since the first COVID-19 case was detected in Wuhan, China, and things are slowly returning to pre-pandemic levels. In terms of COVID, some nations are further forward than others, such as the Philippines, which was the last country in the world to begin face-to-face sessions after more than a year and nearly two years of distance learning.

My education timetable was adjusted to start later than normal during distance or online learning, as some may call it. It began at 8:00 a.m. However, now that pupils are expected to return to school in person, the timetable has been restored to its previous hour of 7:30 a.m. Some may argue that this is too soon and that the timetable should be maintained, but others may disagree. School should start later, in my opinion, because it impairs children's academic performance, as evidenced by several studies.

Students will receive less sleep when school starts earlier, which is one of the primary elements that influence a student's performance, whether academically or socially. "Students with less sleep have difficulties paying attention in class and are more likely to earn poorer marks," according to the Sleep Foundation. Other issues associated with early start times and the subsequent issue of insufficient sleep include an increased risk of engaging in risky or unhealthy behaviors, an increased risk of athletic injury, an increase in depressive and suicidal symptoms and thoughts, and an increased risk of motor vehicle accidents.

School starting early doesn't only impact how they behave in school, but it also has an impact on their behavior and decisions outside of school. According to the Sleep Foundation, the benefits of starting school later include increased attendance, less tardiness, improved student grades, fewer individuals falling asleep in class, fewer disciplinary difficulties, and reduced irritation and depressive symptoms. It also aids their sleeping and waking cycles. Simply postponing the start of school each morning will benefit pupils' performance and conduct both inside and outside of the classroom.
