The Only Way for Korean Baseball - IIPitch Clock, Larger Bases, No Shifts

As the discussion from the last article continues, we keep the conversation going as we talk about larger bases that have been implemented in Major League Baseball this season.

At the start of the 2022 season, the Minor Leagues experimentally tested the application of larger bases to test the later implementation for the Majors. This is not the first time testing upcoming Major League rules in the minors. For example, the 2021 Minor League season proved to work as a useful simulation testing for their pickoff rules that went on to be part of the 2022 Major League reshuffle of the rules. It’s been the same thing all over again. Rob Manfred, the MLB commissioner had announced the use of larger bases in the 2022 Minor Leagues, which went on to become an additional rule for the 2023 MLB.

The MLB specialists expect the larger bases to become a better catalyst for a more swift, dynamic gameplay both for the fans and the players. Not only that, but analysts also expect the number of injuries to decrease, as many baseball injuries may happen due to an unorderly step on the base pads.

During the 2023 season, the effect of larger base pads looks good as Ronald Acuna Jr. leads both the National League and the American League in stolen bases, with Esteury Ruiz leading the American League in stolen bases. Ronald Acuna Jr. is on his historic path to easily recording a 40-40.
