The US increased retail spending for a fourth consecutive month in July as consumers continued to open their wallets and bolster the US economy. Shoppers spend a lot of money despite the Fed raising interest rates. As inflation stabilizes, officials are likely to keep interest rates stable rather than increase them at their September meeting.

In July, shoppers also increased their spending at grocery and hardware stores. When Amazon's summer promotion kicked off, online spending rose 1.9% in July. Gasoline sales rose 0.4% in July. According to OPIS, gasoline prices rose from $3.54 in early July to $3.76 per gallon at the end of July. The Department of Commerce said retail sales rose 0.7 percent last month from the previous month. This is a sign that Americans' spending is outpacing inflation.

Consumer confidence has been relatively solid in recent months thanks to low inflation and a strong labor market. Households' perceptions of their current financial situation improved in July, according to a survey of consumer expectations by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Nonetheless, some retailers are bracing for the uncertainty of the coming months. "There's uncertainty with respect to where the consumer goes in the second half, and obviously, with the Fed moves, we're waiting to see what kind of impact that might have on spending," said Treasury Director Richard McPhail.

소매 판매 4개월 연속 증가

소비자들이 계속해서 지갑을 열어 미국 경제를 강화함에 따라 미국은 7월에 4개월 연속 소매 지출을 늘렸다.

연준이 금리를 인상 했음에도 불구하고 쇼핑객들은 많은 돈을 지불했다. 물가가 안정화됨에 따라 관료들은 9월 회의에서 금리인상보다는 금리를 안정적으로 유지할 가능성이 높다.

7월에는 쇼핑객들도 식료품점과 철물점에서 지출을 늘렸다. 아마존의 여름 프로모션이 있었던 7월 온라인 지출은 1.9% 증가했다.

휘발유 판매는 7월에 0.4% 증가했다. OPIS에 따르면 휘발유 가격은 7월초 3.54달러에서 7월 말 갤런당 3.76달러까지 올랐다.

상무부는 지난 달 소매 판매가 전월 대비 0.7% 증가했다고 밝혔다. 이는 미국인들의 지출이 인플레이션을 앞지르고 있다는 신호다.

낮은 인플레이션과 강력한 노동 시장 덕분에 최근 몇달 동안 소비자 신뢰도는 상대적으로 견고했다. 뉴욕연방준비은행의 소비자 기대조사에 따르면 가계의 현재 재정 상황에 대한 인식이 7월에 개선된 것으로 나타났다.

그럼에도 불구하고 일부 소매업체는 앞으로 몇달 동안의 불확실성에 대비하고 있다.

Richard McPhail 재무 책임자는 "하반기에 소비자가 어디로 갈지 불확실하며 연준의 움직임과 함께 지출에 어떤 영향을 미칠지 기다리고 있다"고 말했다.
