The distressing incident unfolded when an individual deliberately drove a car into pedestrians and subsequently embarked on a stabbing spree, resulting in a toll of at least 14 injured individuals, with three victims in critical condition. Swiftly, law enforcement apprehended a 23-year-old suspect at the scene, and he is currently undergoing intensive interrogation.

Notably, the suspect, a high school dropout grappling with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, possesses no notable criminal record, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the police department in Seongnam's Bundang district. The authorities are diligently probing the underlying motives behind this unsettling act.

In response to the grave incident, President Yoon has urged for a resolute mobilization of the police force, as conveyed by his press secretary, Kim Eun-hye, on Friday. The vicinity around the scene has been cordoned off by law enforcement officers, and in the wake of the attack, online threats hinting at potential copycat crimes within South Korea have surfaced, prompting active investigations by the nation's police authorities.

While incidents involving vehicular rampages and stabbings are relatively uncommon in South Korea, they are not entirely without precedent, as evidenced by a similar stabbing incident that transpired in Seoul just last month, resulting in one fatality and injuries to three others.
