Sociology, literature, anthropology, economics, politics, diplomacy, and management?most academic disciplines tell the story of humanity and human affairs. Moreover, these disciplines provide insights and even beauty that transcend eras. Science, however, was different. Science was austere. 

However, if we assess science at this juncture, it emerges as the most predominant field in human society. In the 21st century, science has evolved into indispensable knowledge.

A nuclear weapon, the subject of heated debate, evolved into a pivotal event that prompted reflection on the ethical dimensions of scientific advancement. 

Recently, another event involving scientific advancement and commercialization raised ethical questions: gene editing. Scientist He Jiankui edited a child's genes from a couple who did not want their child to contract HIV, as the husband was an HIV carrier. This event marked the first instance of scientists globally breaking the barrier of prohibition, and gene editing of this kind is now regarded as a technology that will bring about significant ethical challenges in the future.

There are speculations that if gene-editing tools like CRISPR become widely commercialized, we may enter an era where parents can "shop" for their child's abilities. Wealthy couples could buy various physical and mental strengths, while children born to less privileged parents might start life with inherent inequalities, resulting in a loss of fairness from birth.

Science has now become a discipline that cannot ignore ethical considerations. Scientists are increasingly aware of this reality and are actively engaging in discussions about the potential impacts of their research on the future. They recognize the need for transparency in how research is conducted and its possible consequences.
