In recent years, racism has become a severe issue in international soccer. This is especially true for Asian players. It's a lingering problem in soccer that's been around for a long time.

In the English Premier League, a male fan racially abused Son Heung-min (Tottenham) by tearing his eyes out during a match on July 7.
Both Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur have announced intense action against the fan, and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said that decisive action, including a three-year stadium ban and confiscation of his passport, should be taken to show that racist behavior in soccer has consequences. Prosecutor Douglas Mackay also said that "racist behavior has a huge impact on the game and the players, as well as the fans," and that they should know that it is wrong. He also said that those who use racist language or behavior at England Euro 2024 will be dealt with firmly, not only by being banned from stadiums but also by having their passports confiscated. 

The English Premier League (EPL) said this incident will strengthen the penalties for racism and serve as a wake-up call to the soccer world. 
There were also allegations that Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton) was not getting a break from racism at the club. The Wolverhampton club denied the allegations, saying that racism should never happen, but some have argued that Hwang was abused without a break.
It's important to remember that racism is a global issue, and it's still a problem in soccer. Also, many people say that we need to develop the sport of soccer with a sense of global citizenship.
