The inflation worldwide is decelerating much faster than anticipated. It is predicted to return to normal levels for the first time in three years.

The decline in inflation should be managed to boost household purchasing power and provide the central bank with the option to reduce interest rates, easing economic growth through two mechanisms.

Oxford Economics' Senior Adviser Michael Saunders anticipates that inflation in the Eurozone will reach 1.3% and in the UK, 2.7% in the fourth quarter of next year. In contrast, he expects U.S. inflation to decline to 2.2% when measured by the Federal Reserve's preferred gauge - the Personal Consumption Expenditures Index. The Commerce Department reported on Friday that this figure was 2.6% in November. Excluding food and energy, it remained at 3.2%, falling short of the six-month average of 1.9%.

The Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, and the Bank of England all have a common % inflation target of 2%.

The common factors pulling inflation down are food, energy, global goods prices, and monetary policy,” said Saunders, a former Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee member. “But the differences, and why inflation will be quicker to return to target in the eurozone, is the U.S. and the U.K. also have greater pressures from labor market tightness, which are fading only gradually.

Many major economies have reduced wage growth rates in their labor markets this year, a trend expected to continue into 2024.

옥스퍼드 이코노믹스의 Michael Saunders 수석 고문은 내년 4분기에 유로존에서 1.3%, 영국에서 2.7%의 인플레이션을 예상하고, 미국의 경우 연준이 선호하는 개인 지표로 측정한 인플레이션은 2.2%로 하락할 것으로 예상했다. 소비지출 물가지수로 측정한 지난 11월의 미국 인플레이션은 2.6%였다. 음식과 에너지를 제외하면 3.2%로, 지난 6개월 동안의 연평균은 1.9%에 그쳤다.

연방준비은행, 유럽중앙은행, 영란은행은 모두 인플레이션을 2%로 목표로 하고 있다.

Saunders는 "인플레이션을 낮추는 공통 요인은 식품, 에너지, 글로벌 상품 가격, 통화 정책"이라며 "그러나 미국과 영국은 노동 시장 긴축으로 인한 압력이 크기 때문에, 이 압력은 점차적으로 줄어들고 있어, 유로존에서는 인플레이션이 목표치로 더 빨리 회복될 것"이라고 설명했다.

많은 주요 경제국은 올해에도 노동 시장에서 임금 인상률을 낮추었으며, 이러한 추세는 2024년에도 계속될 것으로 예상된다.
