Art Museums in Seoul

Seoul has a lot of art museums and is also considered the cultural center of South Korea. Some museums are well-known to artists and international visitors. Leeum Museum of Art
The Leeum Museum of Art is a private art museum established by the Samsung Culture Foundation and located in Itaewon-ro, Seoul. It is highly regarded for its traditional and contemporary Korean art collection. The museum comprises three buildings designed by world-renowned architects Mario Botta, Jean Nouvel, and Rem Koolhaas and features permanent and special exhibitions.

Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA)
The Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) is an art museum operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It was opened in 1988, focusing on preserving and developing artworks that represent Seoul's history and culture. The building has a Renaissance symmetry, and the museum's ceiling is glazed to allow ample natural light, symbolizing the contrast between past and present.

National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is Korea's foremost museum of modern and contemporary art. It has four locations in Korea: Gwacheon, Seoul, Deoksugung, and Cheongju. The Seoul Museum, which opened in 2013, is located next to Gyeongbokgung Palace and is designed around three themes: an intangible art museum, an archipelagic art museum, and an open art museum.

The Leeum Museum of Art, the Seoul Museum of Art, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art are significant cultural institutions in Seoul, each with unique characteristics and history.
