Retro, vintage, and Y2K would be the most trending words in the year 2024. Many fashion industries, designers, and even normal people have been following this Y2K and retro trend recently. People are saying that 2022-2024 is the “Back to the Golden Years” era where fashion and design trends that were created in the 90s-2000s are returning.
Y2K is frequently used as a fashion term, which means “the year 2000.” Y2K styles originated in the 90s-2000s when Britney Spears, Regina George in the movie “Mean Girls,” and Paris Hilton were the trendsetting icons of the time. People back then, wore scarf tops, boot-cut jeans, and showy accessories, etc… This Y2k trend started in 2021 with the TikTok trend when celebrities and influencers such as Gigi Hadid and Kendal Jenner wearing pedal pushers and mini uggs.

Not just in fashion, but also K-pop market is at the forefront of Korea's y2k trend. K-pop girl band “New Jeans,” blew a craze in the Korean Y2K and retro trend. They showcased every aspect of their work, inspired by the Newtro, a modern take on retro style. Their sporty attire, long hair, and little makeup brought to mind the first-generation female group S.E.S. The music video for "Ditto" showcased Korean school uniforms and a camcorder, evoking the spirit of early 1900s classrooms.

Many gag programs have been very popular for parodying the atmosphere of the 2000s. They used to remind moms and dads of the SNS, which is like Instagram or YouTube today. In the theaters, "Slam Dunk", which our dads loved, was re-released, and Titanic, which made many people cry, was also re-released.
The designs that caught people's attention changed to vintage or retro designs. Designers started to reuse the 70s nostalgia style, using faded color palettes, retro stripes, and funky patterns. Another design that caught people’s attention was vintage minimalism which uses old-fashioned looks but feels fresh and modern. They apply organized lines and a limited color palette.
As the term “Trend comes back every 20 years.” 2020s generations are following the trends of their parents' generation which reminds us of “The Golden Years.”
