NewJeans, the beloved K-pop girl group known for their global success and fresh image, is now facing an uncertain future after losing a legal battle to terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE. The court's ruling, followed by the dismissal of an appeal, has intensified concerns among fans and sparked broader public criticism.
Earlier this year, NewJeans members, alongside their legal representatives and parents, filed a lawsuit seeking to nullify their exclusive contracts with ADOR, citing alleged violations of trust and management issues. The lawsuit directly targeted HYBE, ADOR’s parent company, requesting an injunction to suspend the agency’s rights over the group.
However, on April 8, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court dismissed the lawsuit, stating there was insufficient evidence to warrant the termination of the contracts. The group’s legal team immediately filed an appeal, but the court rejected it the following day, reaffirming HYBE’s authority over both ADOR and NewJeans.

In the wake of the court's decisions, uncertainty looms over NewJeans’ future activities. Fans, who have long admired the group’s unique artistry and independence, have voiced deep worries about potential changes to the group’s creative direction and management. At the same time, public criticism toward both ADOR’s internal conflict and HYBE’s handling of the situation has continued to escalate.
With legal options now exhausted, NewJeans remains bound by their current contracts under the oversight of ADOR and HYBE. As the group faces an unpredictable road ahead, fans and industry observers alike are left questioning whether NewJeans will be able to preserve the identity that has made them a global sensation.
