Gwanak-gu District recently announced the launch of Future-Cheum GO, a hands-on science program that will take local middle- and high-school students to Seoul National University’s laboratories. The goal of this program is to expose teenagers to mathematics and science.
The program is part of the Seoul Future Education District project, which encourages local governments and the education office to work together on community-based learning.
After an open call in July, Gwanak-gu selected SNU’s Center for Gifted Education in Science as the program’s operator. Sessions will run from September through November. Future-Cheum GO will host 30 sessions in lecture rooms and laboratories at Seoul National University’s College of Education.
Topics include artificial intelligence, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and Earth Science. The program emphasizes experiments and practical activities. It is open to local middle- and high-school students.
By partnering with a university, Gwanak-gu provides teenagers with a unique opportunity to conduct experiments in state-of-the-art facilities and explore advanced STEM subjects. Mayor Park Jun-hee hopes the program will help students develop skills for the future through in-depth math and science experiences. If successful, this model could inspire other districts to create similar collaborations, giving more students access to university-level resources.
