Recently, teenagers have been consuming too much caffeine. Most students are dealing with a lack of sleep because they have too many tasks to manage without caffeine.
A proper amount of caffeine can help students stay awake and focus on their work, but abusing caffeine can significantly impact students’ health.
According to the Korea Health Promotion Institute (KHIPI) and Gyeonggi Food Safety Policy Institute, 3 out of 10 high school students consume high-caffeine drinks on more than three days a week. In a 2025 investigation conducted by KHIPI, the percentage of students who consume high-caffeine drinks on more than three days a week was 21.9% for male students and 21.2% for female students.

Compared with middle school students, the consumption figure for high school students was more than twice as high.
The recommended daily intake for students is 2.5 mg per 1 kg of body weight, but if they drink an energy drink sold on the market, they could easily exceed their daily allowance. Consuming high-caffeine drinks can cause chronic diseases, so students must be careful about consuming caffeine.
Therefore, students must be aware of the effects of caffeine and need to practice managing their workload and sleep schedule efficiently without relying on caffeine.
