Gangnam-gu Fine Dust CrisisDid we reduce any fine dust?

Spring is coming. The weather is sunny and perfect to go on a walk, but Gangnam-gu faces a big issue.

The Gangnam district, one of the most serious sectors in the country, has proposed new measures to deal with fine dust: building a fine dust evacuation center. Gangnam-gu's head of the district office, Jung Soon-Kyun, introduced a policy to reduce fine dust using big data collective method, and reflecting on the collected data, installed fine dust traffic lights and alert signs at all elementary schools and also installed daycare centers in Gangnam-gu.

If fine dust rises to dangerous levels, the dust traffic lights will warn children so that their health will not deteriorate. However, by 2022, Gannam gu aims to lower the concentration of fine dust by pm10 to pm30.

The level of fine dust remains at a higher level although the factories in China have stopped operating due to the Corona Virus. The major reason is the traffic in Gangnam-gu. Carbon emissions in home appliances and city activity are higher than in other areas.

Reflecting on the fact that Gangnam gu itself produces a massive amount of fine dust, Gangnam district installed 144 fine dust warning boards and built a fine dust free shell, a shelter away from fine dust, in areas where there are any traffic delays. Moreover, five more charging stations were built for electric vehicles in Gangnam-gu to actively promote the use of electric cars.

As a result, some people commented, "We don't feel worrisome anymore about fine dust in Gangnam." However, the minority claims, "Since this is prevention, not reduction of the fine dust level, nothing will improve."

To actively reflect this, Gangnam-gu Office is obliged to provide education on reducing fine dust to elementary, kindergarten and middle schools throughout Gangnam-gu by 2022. Twelve campaigns have been established in the hope of reducing fine dust levels.

Gangnam-gu encourages to join the campaign. Why don't we go ahead and get involved so that we can pass on this legacy for our future offspring?
