Even during the global pandemic that has put a halt on most industries, Tesla has subverted everyone’s expectations with its first full-year profit report. Tesla’s stock price has increased 294 percent this year alone, with a net income of 104 million US dollars and 6 billion US dollars in revenue.

Much of the revenue growth is due to the high sales of regulatory credits and emission credits compared to other automobile companies. The fame of Elon Musk, the founder and CEO himself, and related initiatives like SpaceX has also had a significant influence in the rise of Tesla’s stock.
Musk revealed the company’s next step of building a new plant for the upcoming Cybertruck in Austin, Texas. Moreover, he stated the increased production capacity for Model 3 and Model Y at Fremont, California from 400,000 to 500,00.

The sales figures from global markets show a decline in petrol and diesel sales while figures for electric automobiles have shown an increase. With the price of Tesla’s stock skyrocketing, it has quickly surpassed legacy automakers, including Toyota and Volkswagen, and is now worth three times more than the three biggest US legacy carmakers combined. To catch up with Tesla’s immense growth, legacy automakers are planning a shift from petrol and diesel cars to electric cars, investing billions of dollars.

Preparing for a hiring boom due to manufacturing expansion, Tesla doesn’t seem to show a decline in profitability. With Tesla changing the status quo of the automobile industry, other companies must adapt quickly to stay in the game in the future.

테슬라, 새로운 시대를 이끌다

대부분의 산업을 중단시킨 세계적인 전염병인 코로나바이러스가 유행하는 동안에도 테슬라는 첫 번째 연간 수익 보고서로 모든 사람들의 예상을 뒤엎었다. 테슬라의 주가는 올해에만 294% 상승해 순이익이 1억 4000만 달러, 매출액이 60억 달러였다.

 수익 증가의 상당 부분은 다른 자동차 회사에 비해 규제 크레딧과 배출 크레딧의 판매가 높기 때문이다. 창업자 겸 CEO인 일론 머스크의 명성과 스페이스X와 같은 관련 프로젝트도 테슬라 주가 상승에 큰 영향을 미쳤다.

 머스크는 오스틴 (텍사스주)에 곧 출시될 사이버트럭의 생산을 담당하는 공장을 건설할 계획을 공개하였으며, 앞으로 캘리포니아 프레몬트에서 모델3와 모델Y의 생산량을 40만에서 50만으로 늘릴 것이라고 하였다.

 세계 시장에서의 판매 수치는 휘발유와 디젤 차량 판매가 감소하는 반면 전기 자동차의 수치는 증가세를 보이고 있다. 테슬라의 주가가 급등하면서 도요타와 폭스바겐 등 기존 자동차업체를 순식간에 제치고 미국 3대 레거시 자동차 제조사를 합친 것보다 3배나 많은 가치를 갖게 되었다. 테슬라의 엄청난 성장을 따라잡기 위해, 레거시 자동차 회사들은 수십조 달러를 투자하면서 가솔린과 디젤 자동차에서 전기 자동차로의 전환을 계획하고 있다.

 테슬라는 제조업 확대에 따른 고용 증가를 준비하고 있으며 수익성이 하락할 기세를 보이지 않고 있다. 테슬라가 자동차 산업의 현황을 바꾸면서 다른 회사들도 뒤쳐지지 않으려면 빠르게 적응을 해야 할 것이다.
