Entering the 20th century, communities through the Internet have become more and more developed and activated, reaching the present situation where life without the Internet is unimaginable. Among them, 'YouTube', which was launched in 2005, has become the largest video platform in the world, gaining popularity among many people. On YouTube, where more than thousands of different genres and content exist, the focus is on content dealing with "movie reviews," which boasts enormous popularity with high view count. 'Movie Review' is a content that shows important scenes in the movie, introduces the main plot and content, and even sometimes includes the creator's personal interpretation and ending spoilers. People these days who have no time to watch a whole movie due to their busy lives, often tend to find the movie reviews fun because it shows the movie in an interesting way in a short span of 10 to 20 minutes, and is very popular. However, are these brief and interesting movie reviews on YouTube really having a good impact on the movie market? In fact, this content causes many issues.

First of all, the most controversial issue is copyright infringement. According to information provided by the Korea Copyright Protection Agency in April 2020, copyright infringement of film content continues to occur, and the annual use of pirated content accounts for 42.8 percent of the total use of film content. When using or copying a film without permission from the production company, this is clearly an act that could constitute copyright infringement. Especially on YouTube, the revenue generated by video views and advertisements is passed on to creators, not producers of a film, causing more serious problems.

There are also concerns that excessive information and exposure to the ending significantly reduces interest in real movies. In fact, most people who have seen movie reviews rarely view or buy real movies. In other words, rather than being promoted through movie review content, it often leads to lower views and failure to generate income, which is bad for producers.

In addition, some complain that the movie's value and quality are being degraded by its sensational content-oriented titles and plot settings. Many of the problems caused by the surge in movie review content on YouTube are a major loss to the movie market. If the copyrights are used fairly and the movie review content focuses on the purpose of promoting the film, it will help preserve the film market and the value of all films.

20세기에 들어오면서, 인터넷을 통한 커뮤니티는 점점 더 발전하고 활성화되어, 인터넷이 없는 생활은 상상할 수도 없는 현재의 상황에 이르렀다.

그 중 2005년에 개설된 ‘유튜브'라는 플랫폼은 많은 사람들의 인기를 얻어 전세계 최대 규모의 동영상 공유 사이트로 자리매김했다. 수만개의 다양한 장르와 콘텐츠가 존재하는 유튜브 속에서, 엄청난 인기와 조회수를 자랑하는 ‘영화 리뷰’를 다루는 콘텐츠에 집중 주목하였다.

정확히 말해 ‘영화 리뷰’ 컨텐츠는 영화의 중요한 장면들을 보여주며 주요 줄거리와 내용을 소개하고, 경우에 따라 크리에이터의 개인적인 해석, 결말 스포까지 포함하는 전개이다. 너무나도 바쁜 삶 때문에 영화 한편을 볼 시간과 여유조차 없는 현대인들에게, 주로 10-20분 정도의 짧은 길이로 영화를 흥미롭게 풀어가는 이 컨텐츠가 많은 인기를 끄는 것은 당연한 일이다.

하지만 이러한 간결하고도 흥미로운 유튜브 속 영화 리뷰가 영화시장에게 정말 좋은 영향을 미치고 있을까? 그렇다고 하기엔 이 콘텐츠는 많은 문제점을 가지고 있다. 우선, 가장 이슈가 되는 문제는 바로 저작권 침해이다. 한국저작권보호원이 2020년 4월에 제공한 정보에 따르면, 영화 콘텐츠의 저작권 침해는 계속 발생하고 있으며, 연간 불법복제물 이용량은 무려 전체 영화 콘텐츠 이용량 중 42.8%를 차지하고 있다. 저작권자, 즉 제작사 측의 허락 없이 저작물을 이용하거나 복제할 경우, 이는 분명 저작권 침해에 해당될 수 있는 행동이다.

특히 유튜브에서는, 영상의 조회수와 광고로 창출되는 수익이 크리에이터에게로 전달되기 때문에 더 심각한 문제를 야기시킨다. 또한, 과도한 정보와 결말의 노출이 실제 영화에 대한 흥미를 크게 떨어뜨린다는 우려가 나오고 있다. 실제로, 영화 리뷰를 본 사람들 대부분이 실제 영화를 조회하거나 구입하는 경우가 매우 적다고 한다. 즉, 영화 리뷰 콘텐츠를 통해 홍보가 되기 보다 오히려 낮은 조회수와 수입 창출 실패로 이어지는 경우가 더 빈번하다는 뜻이다. 이뿐만 아니라, 이목을 끌기 위한 선정적인 내용 위주의 제목과 줄거리 설정으로 영화의 가치와 질을 저하시킨다는 불만까지 나오고 있다.

유튜브에서 영화 리뷰 콘텐츠가 급증하면서 생기는 많은 문제점들은 영화 시장에서는 큰 타격이 아닐 수 없다. 저작권의 공정한 이용과 영화 홍보 목적을 위주로 한 영상 업로드가 활성화 되어, 영화시장을 지키고 영화의 가치를 보존하길 바라는 바이다.
