The international city of Songdo is planning to open its own Startup Park (also called a Venturepolis) called POOM in December of 2020, which will support promising startups in the region. Leading up to its full-scale opening, the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) has recent announced that 5 startups in 4 fields were picked in a competition, chosen out of a participant pool of over 30 others. They would be supported by the ‘2020 Incheon Startup Park Financial Support Program’.

Companies were selected from the four fields of Smart Cities, Bio, Information Security, and Sharing Economy. The companies specifically were: Wedrive Inc., a big-data company providing a platform that collects traffic information, Smile System Inc., an online-to-offline(O2O) company that provides a platform for travel convenience, STS Bio Co. Ltd., a bio company providing delivery for closed drugs, Seculetter Co. Ltd., an AI-based security company that prevents email hacking, and Docuworld LLC., a cyber-education company specializing in cyber-violence prevention.

Each company will receive a commercialization support cost of up to 180 million KRW(approximately 150,000USD) and benefits from other supporting projects happening in Startup Park.

This program plans to support promising startups that have not gone beyond the commercialization stage that could not expand their businesses despite having innovative ideas. IFEZ plans to continue to expand programs in support of these startups that hope to become unicorn companies through technological innovation.

The Startup Park is a national public offering project that aims to establish an open innovative startup base, like Silicon Valley in the United States, and it has been led by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups(MOSS). Incheon City’s Songdo International Business District was designated as a base of operations by the MOSS last July, and an open anchor facility is now being built to house startups using a total national budget of 24.1 billion KRW(approximately 20 million USD).

IFEZ was the primary organizer of this project, while Shinhan Financial Group and Celltrion would act as private operators along with Incheon Techno Park for the next four years. 57 other promising future startups were selected in July 2020 to receive support from the public-led development program while more than 80 companies are to be selected by October 2020 to receive support from the private-led development program, all before the park’s scheduled opening in December of 2020.

인천 송도 스타트업 파크, 유망 스타트업에 대한 실증적인 지원 본격화

실증 상용화 지원 프로그램 통해 4개분야 5개 스타트업 선정

인천 송도 국제도시에 유망한 스타트업들을 지원하기 위한 인천 스타트업 파크, 벤처폴리스, ‘품’, 이 2020년 12월 오픈을 앞두고 있다. 본격적인 오픈을 앞두고, 인천경제자유구역청은 ‘2020년 인천 스타트업파크 실증 상용화 지원프로그램’을 통해 6.4대1의 경쟁을 뚫고 최종적으로 4개 분야의 5개의 스타트업이 선정이 되었다고 최근 밝혔다.
 
스마트시티, 바이오, 정보보안, 공유경제 등 4개 분야에서 선정이 된 기업들은 1) ㈜ 위드라이브 (빅데이터 업체 - 교통정보 수집 플랫폼), 2) 스마일시스템 ㈜ (O2O-온라인투오프라인 업체 - 여행편의 플랫폼), 3) ㈜에스티에스바이오 (바이오 업체 - 폐쇄형 약물전달 장치 서비스), 4) 시큐레터 ㈜ (인공지능. 보안 업체 - 이메일 해킹 방지 서비스), 5) 다큐월드 유한회사 (사이버 교육 업체 - 사이버폭력 대응 서비스) 등이다. 이들 업체들에게는 각각 최대 1억8000만원의 상용화 지원비용과 인천 스타트업 파크내의 다른 지원사업의 혜택도 받게 된다.

이 프로그램은 혁신적인 아이디어를 기반으로 제품과 서비스를 개발하더라도, 대규모 투자가 필요하여 상용화 단계를 넘지 못하고 사업 확장이 되지 못하는 유망 스타트업들을 지원하기 위한 사업이다. 인천경제자유구역청은 앞으로 혁신적 기술력을 통해 미래 유니콘 기업을 꿈꾸는 스타트업에 대한 프로그램 지원을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

인천 스타트업 파크는 미국의 실리콘밸리와 같은 개방형 혁신 창업거점을 구축하기 위해 중소벤처기업부가 추진을 하고 있는 국가공모사업이다. 이 사업은 인천시가 지난해 7월 최종 선정되었고, 총 241억원의 국가 예산을 지원 받아 유망한 스타트업 육성을 위한 개방형 앵커시설로 조성이 되고 있다.

주관은 인천경제자유구역청이 하고, 인천 테크노파크와 함께 민간 운영사로 신한금융지주와 셀트리온이 선정되어 4년간 이 사업의 운영에 참여를 한다. 2020년 12월 정식 오픈을 목표로 사업추진을 진행하고 있으며, 지난 2020년 7월에 공공 육성 주도 프로그램의 지원을 받게 될 미래 유망 스타트업 57개사가 선정이 되었고, 10월까지 민간육성 주도 프로그램의 지원을 받게될 80여개 업체가 선정될 예정이다.
