The aftermath of the Corona is indeed so great that many films this year have suffered enormous damage, with their release date postponed or not canceled screening.

현재, 올해 1월 이후 코로나가 퍼진지 10개월이 넘어가는 시점에도 코로나는 여전히 전 세계적으로 많은 피해를 주고 있다. 미국은 매일 10만 명에 이르는 확진자가 나오고 있고, 유럽의 여러 나라 또한 하루 평균 8만 명이 감염되는 추세이다.

우리나라도 마찬가지로 아직 백신이 개발되지 않아 꾸준한 확진자 수를 기록하고 있다. 이러한 지속적인 팬데믹 상황에서 사람들을 조금이라도 즐겁게 해주는 건 바로 여가생활이다.

특히 영화 관람은 영화 상영 수가 대폭 줄어든 현재의 상황에서도 사람들에게 꾸준히 사랑받고 있다. 코로나의 여파가 워낙 커, 이번 연도에 나온 영화들이 개봉이 연기되거나 상영되지 못하고, 되더라도 낮은 관객 수를 기록하는 등 막대한 피해를 입은 것은 사실이다.

하지만 사람들은 이제는 그저 코로나가 끝나기를 기다리기보다 현재에 적응하는 더 나은 대책들을 찾아내었다. 가장 큰 변화 중 하나는 새롭고 변화된 영화 상영 방식과 영화관들이 다양하게 생겨났다는 것이다. 특히 가족끼리, 친구끼리 안전하게 차에서 영화를 관람할 수 있는 자동차 극장이 인기를 끌고 있다. 대형 최신 영화상영관의 등장과 함께 막을 내리던 자동차 극장이 이 사태로 인해 새로운 가능성을 얻게 된 것이다. 여러 지역에서 매진 행렬이 이어지고 있고, 특정 지역에서는 관람 가능한 차량 수와 상영 횟수도 늘렸다는 소식이다.

또한 미국에서도 ‘콘서트 인 유어 카 시리즈' 라는 차에서 즐기는 콘서트가 유행하며 새로운 라이브 공연 문화를 형성하였다. 이는 무대를 중심에 두고 차들이 일정한 거리를 유지하며 원형으로 둘러싸 주파수를 통해 차 안에서 음악과 공연을 즐기는 형태이다. ‘비긴어게인' 이라는 한국의 예능 프로그램에서도 미국의 ‘콘서트 인 유어 카 시리즈'와 같은 형태의 콘서트를 방영하며 주목을 받았다.

비대면 시대에 어울리는 새롭고 재미있는 문화의 형성은 코로나로 지치고 우울한 사람들의 숨통을 트게 해주었다. 팬데믹 상황 속에서도, 서로에게 피해를 끼치지 않고 건강한 문화생활을 즐기기 위한 사람들의 노력과 발전이 이 안타까운 현실에서의 대처법을 보여준다. 하지만 진정으로 영화를 즐길 수 있는 큰 스크린과 생생한 사운드를 겸비한 영화관에 대한 그리움은 여전히 남아있다. 코로나의 격파로 영화산업의 위기가 빨리 해결되고 사람들의 적극적인 문화생활이 재개되길 바라는 바이다.
