COVID-19 has continued so far, and theaters are facing another crisis. Theatres are empty from the delay in the release date of the films. According to a survey conducted by the Korean Film Marketers Association, 75 films were postponed or canceled in the first half of this year. The anticipated films, ‘Call,’ ‘Night in Paradise,’ and ‘Victory,’ are also preparing to be released on Netflix, not on the theater, which is going add on to the theater's crisis.
 
As a result, CGV decided to increase the admission fee from 1,000 won to 2,000 won due to financial difficulties, as well as gradually reducing the number of theaters by about 30 percent. Besides CGV, Lotte Cinema and Megabox are also in the same situation. Re-release movies are on the rise this year amid a series of unfavorable factors. According to the Korean Film Council, there were 130 re-released films between January and March this year, which is double the last year's 67 films. The main reason is that the release date of the new films has been canceled or postponed one after another due to Covid-19.
 
In the first half of the year, domestic hit films such as ‘La La Land,’ ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ ‘The Greatest Showman,’ and ‘Aladdin’ were re-released and received positive responses. In the second half of the year, box office hits such as ‘Chariots of Fire,’ ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ ‘Whiplash,’ and ‘The Notebook’ have been re-released or scheduled to be re-released.
 
Not only foreign films but also domestic films are actively re-released. CGV started 'Life Film Exhibition 2' in April. It screened 'Beat,' 'Buddhist,' 'Sympathy,' and 'Spring Day Goes.' On Chuseok, "Steel Rain 2: Summit" appeared in the theater as an extended version with an additional 11 minutes. "Save from the Evil" will also be re-released with an extended version that adds 6 minutes and 14 seconds.
 
Re-release of domestic films as well as foreign films is also active. CGV started 'Life Film Exhibition 2' in April. The films ‘Beat,’ ‘The Unjust,’ ‘Ditto,’ and ‘One Fine Spring Day.’ On Chuseok, ‘Steel Rain 2: Summit’ appeared in the theater as an extended version with an additional 11 minutes. ‘Deliver Us from Evil’ will also be re-released with an extended version that adds 6 minutes and 14 seconds.
 
The movie theater is full of re-released movies while new movies disappear. We hope that Corona 19 situation will improve soon and the movie will be back at the box office.

재개봉 영화 흥행시대

코로나19 사태가 현재까지 지속 및 장기화되면서 극장들이 또다시 위기를 맞았다. 영화들의 개봉이 계속해서 연기되면서 생긴 빈자리로 인해 위기가 발생했다. 한국영화마케팅사협회가 실시한 설문에 따르면 올해 상반기 개봉이 연기되거나 취소된 작품은 75편에 이른다. 많은 사람들의 기대를 받던 영화 ‘콜’ '낙원의 밤’ '승리호' 역시 영화관이 아닌 넷플릭스 공개를 준비하고 있어 극장의 위기는 더욱 심각해질 것으로 예상된다.

이에 CGV는 경영난으로 관람료를 1000에서 2000원까지 인상하는 것은 물론 약 30% 가량의 상영관을 점진적으로 줄이기로 했다. CGV 외에도 롯데시네마, 메가박스 등의 영화관도 같은 상황에 놓여 있다. 여러 가지 악재가 겹쳐서 일어나는 가운데 올해 재개봉 영화가 급증하는 추세이다. 영화진흥위원회 영화관입장권 통합전산망에 따르면 올해 1-3월 재개봉 영화는 130편으로 작년 67편의 약 배에 이른다. 코로나19로 영화 개봉이 줄줄이 취소되거나 연기된 것이 가장 주된 원인으로 꼽힌다

상반기에 ‘라라랜드' '보헤미안 랩소디' '위대한 쇼맨' '알라딘' 등 국내에서 흥행한 영화들이 재개봉해 좋은 반응을 얻었다. 이에 하반기 역시 '불의 전차' '엣지 오브 투모로우' '위플래쉬' '노트북' 등의 흥행작이 재개봉 했거나 재개봉 예정에 있다.

해외 영화들 뿐만 아니라 국내 영화들의 재개봉도 활발하다. CGV는 4월부터 '누군가의 인생 영화 기획전 2'를 시작했다. 영화 ‘비트' '부당거래' '동감' '봄날은 간다'를 상영하였다. 추석에는 영화 '강철비2: 정상회담'이 기존에서 11분이 추가된 확장판으로 극장에 나왔다. 영화 ‘다만 악에서 구하소서' 또한 6분 14초가 추가된 확장판으로 재개봉한다.

현재 새로운 영화들이 사라지고 재개봉 영화들만 가득한 영화관, 코로나19가 빠른 시일 내에 호전되어 영화가 다시 흥행하기를 기대한다.
