“We will never concede.”
The president declared as the crowd stormed into the capitol building.

Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States was impeached on January 13th. As a president of the United States, he was the first president to be impeached twice. The United States, especially the capital, was under devastation after the acts of terror against the US capitol building. Trump’s radical supporters rampaged against the election to flip over the result of the election. The supporters of Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, charged into the capitol building, then took down the building. Many were injured, and some were even dead.

In such a time of crisis, what was the president doing at this moment? While most presidents would condemn such blatant acts of terrorism, Trump encouraged the riot, saying how “we had an election stolen from us. It was a landslide election, and everyone knows it.” Due to his actions, the question no longer became whether he will be impeached or not, but rather when he will be impeached. Even though the president notified the violent protestors to return to their houses after they intruded into the Capitol Building, it was hours after the riot had begun.

Calls for Trump’s impeachment were quite strong, even though Trump only had a few days left in his term. Hence, many say Trump’s impeachment is a symbolic action. George W. Bush and many other authorities compared the United States to the Banana Republic, a phrase used to explain a politically unstable country that depends its economy on the exportation of a limited-resource product, such as bananas or minerals. Many Republicans did not hesitate to criticize the current situation of the country and encouraged the impeachment of Trump, as this type of action shouldn’t have been done by a president of one country. Mike Gallagher explained this riot as an “absolute banana republic crap in the United States Capitol”.

The riot did not change the result but rather backfired, making Biden the president of the United States. In the early hours of January 20th, 2021, the government confirmed Joe Biden as the next president. There is doubt that this event will scar the pillars of democracy and justice in the United States of America.
