The Seoul Design Foundation (led by CEO Kyeong Ran Choi), is holding a nationwide event called Picturebook: Play and Link from December 20th, 2020 to February 14th, 2021. During this event, anybody can access and tour a virtual art exhibition via its website at https://play-link.gitlab.io.

Online global design festival called “2020 Seoul Design Week”, dedicated to exhibiting life in Seoul under the pandemic since December of last year, currently sports therapeutic designs to uplift weary citizens and various avenues for engagement with people. This online exhibition provides a mix of entertainment and artistry by putting a spotlight on ten picture book artists whose digital works blur the line between physical and virtual worlds; These books are for all ages, and provide a combined flurry of stimulating lights, and sounds in their explorations of nature, play, and the environment.

This year’s exhibition offers something special, with all ten featured picture books presented in forms of videos and other interactive artistic content. With internet connection and an electronic device (phones, tablets, PCs), anyone can visit the exhibition at any time.

Through this online exhibition, the Seoul Design Foundation plans to give children and families exciting memories with design, and also offers online courses and experiential learning programs. These include free DIY picture book kits, video tutorials on picture book design, and online exhibit tours, all of which audiences can easily take part in.

One such course, the atelier picture book design course, teaches children what picture books are, what it’s like to make them for a living, the materials used in creating pictures, and many other varied in-depth accounts from authors across a five-part video series.

Freely distributed socially distanced take-home kits are also offered, which come in four different kinds. These include enjoyable activities like creating string-art picture books, moving wooden toys, and many more for children. Furthermore, blueprints and instructions for popup books of flowering trees and beaks can be downloaded and printed.

서울 디자인 재단(대표이사 최경란)은 2020년 12월 20일부터 2021년 2월 14일까지 57일간 <일상의 예술, 그림책 전 (Picture book: Play & Link)>을 온라인으로 개최하고 있다. 온라인을 통해서 시민들 누구나 무료로 관람이 가능하며, 링크가 가능한 전시회 바로가기 웹사이트는 https://play-link.gitlab.io/ 이다.

지난해 12월부터 서울형 라이프스타일을 제시하는 글로벌 디자인 축제인 “ 2020서울 디자인 위크”에서는 코로나로 지친 시민들의 마음을 위로하는 힐링 디자인과 시민 참여형 프로그램을 다양하게 선보이고 있다. 이번 온라인 전시회는 놀이와 예술,현실과 환상의 경계를 넘나들며 일상에 위로와 힘을 주는 그림책을 통해 이미지와 텍스트, 아이와 어른, 매체와 매체를 연결해 왔으며, 빛, 소리, 자연, 놀이, 환경 등 다양한 분야를 적극적으로 실험하는 10명의 그림책 작가들을 조명하고 있다.

특히 이번 전시회에서는 참여작가 10인의 그림책에 수록된 원화 작품을 영상으로 보여주면서, 각 작가의 주요 작품을 인터랙티브 아트 컨텐츠로 구현했다. 관람객들은 인터넷이 가능한 곳이면 어디서나 핸드폰, 태블릿 PC 등을 통해 언제든지 체험을 할 수 있다.

서울디자인재단은 이번 온라인 전시회를 통해 어린이와 가족 관람객이 흥미로운 디자인 체험을 할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

특히 이번 전시회는 온라인교육과 체험프로그램을 특징으로 하고 있다. 즉, DIY 그림책 키트 무료배포, 영상을 통한 그림책 디자인 교육과 작가들의 대표 작품을 볼 수 있는 온라인 전시투어 등 관람객들이 능동적으로 참여할 수 있는 다양한 프로그램으로 구성되어 있다.

찾아가는 아뜰리에 그림책 디자인 교육에서는 그림책이 무엇이고, 그림책을 그리는 작가들은 어떤 사람들인지, 그림책이 어떤 재료로 만들어 지는지 등 그림책 전반에 대한 다양하고 자세한 이야기를 작가들이 직접 참여하는 5개의 시리즈 영상을 통해 만나볼 수 있다.

무료로 배포하는 언택트 키트는 총 4가지로 제공되고 있다. 차정인 작가의 <실 한가닥>은 실로 이어지는 그림책 만들기를 통해 아이들이 스스로 창작하고 그림책을 완성해 나가는 키트이고, 한병호 작가의 <아크로바틱 우드토이>는 나무로 만들어져 있는 캐릭터 실루엣에 그림을 그린 후 실로 엮어서 움직이는 장난감을 조립하는 키트이다. 이외에 팝업 꽃나무 만들기와 부리 팝업북 만들기는 디자인 도안을 다운로드 받아 출력해 설명서를 보면서 만들 수 있는 키트이다.
