SpaceX and Elon Musk

Recently, SpaceX launched Falcon 9 rocket carrying 60 Starlink internet satellites at 10:59 p.m. EST on February 15 (Monday). The launch seemed successful; however, SpaceX lost the returning booster by missing a floating platform called “Of Course I Still Love You” in the Atlantic Ocean.

SpaceX owns about one-third of all active satellites in the sky and has more than 1,000 Starlink satellites in orbit. Their plan for Starlink is to provide a low latency internet system to the globe.

Currently, Starlink beta is used by customers in the U.S, U.K, and Canada. SpaceX’s plan to launch Starlink satellites turned out to lose the reusable two-stage Falcon 9 booster. The booster was on its sixth trip to space. SpaceX announced that they would like to “recover the booster.” Another launch of 60 Starlink satellites was planned for February 17 (Wednesday). SpaceX planned two launches in a week due to poor weather. Monday’s flight marked to be the fifth launch of the year for SpaceX. Starlink costs about $10 billion to build but when the network is completed, it could bring about $30 billion a year.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and who owns SpaceX, mentioned that Starlink is “a staggeringly difficult technical and economic endeavor.” SpaceX completed $850 million in a fresh funding round, and its valuation is $74 billion now. SpaceX raised a new fund at a price of $419.99 per share, and Elon Musk made $420 infamous in 2018. Elon Musk’s future plans include writing a book about Tesla and SpaceX.

Further, SpaceX plans to use natural gas near Texas. By using natural gas, Elon Musk tries to produce synthetic carbon-neutral rocket fuel rather than fossil fuel. SpaceX is also announced the plan for the first civilian spaceflight. This is going to be the first orbital flight crewed entirely by non-astronauts. By having lots of plans for the future, SpaceX is contributing to the universe and developments of technology.
