Today, many people are diagnosed with cancer and die, and some people are cured with advanced medical technology. There are many types of cancer, such as lung cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, kidney cancer, and blood cancer. Among them, we introduce leukemia belonging to blood cancer.

Leukemia is a type of cancer that occurs in blood cells because abnormal blood cells multiply, and blood cell production such as normal white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets is suppressed. Leukemia can be classified into a total of four categories: acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, and chronic lymphoblastic leukemia. Leukemia occurs in tissues called bone marrow with blood cells. Therefore, the leukemia test is carried out as a bone marrow test to collect bone marrow.

Treatment methods include chemotherapy to remove leukemia cells in the bone marrow, various drug treatments, and hematopoietic stem cell transplants received by chronic leukemia patients. The best treatment for the doctor's diagnosis and the patient's condition is carried out among the different treatment methods.

Leukemia can occur to anyone regardless of age or gender and has a variety of early symptoms. First, normal white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets are suppressed, resulting in sepsis due to reduced immunity, anemia and headaches due to reduced red blood cells, and bleeding due to reduced platelets. Conversely, excessive proliferation of blood cells can lead to symptoms such as high fever, fatigue, diarrhea, and decreased consciousness. Severe symptoms include weight loss, bone pain, vomiting, and cerebral hemorrhage.

All of these symptoms are common in people, so that they can be easily overlooked. However, leukemia can kill about 90 percent of people if left untreated. Therefore, if your symptoms are suspected to be early symptoms of leukemia, you are recommended to see a doctor.

생명을 위협하는 혈액암, 백혈병

오늘날 많은 사람들이 암을 진단받아 사망하기도 하고 또 발전된 의료기술로 완치하기도 한다. 암의 종류는 흔히 알고 있는 폐암, 위암, 췌장암, 신장암, 혈액암 등 여러 종류의 암이 존재한다. 그 중 혈액암에 속하는 백혈병에 대해 소개한다.

백혈병은 비정상적인 혈액세포가 증식되고 정상 백혈구와 적혈구, 혈소판 등의 혈액세포 생성이 억제되어 혈액 세포에 발생한 암이다. 백혈병은 급성 골수성 백혈병, 급성 림프구성 백혈병, 만성 골수성 백혈병, 만성 림프구성 백혈병으로 총 네 가지로 분류할 수 있다. 백혈병은 혈액 세포가 있는 뼛속의 골수라는 조직에서 발생한다. 그렇기 때문에 백혈병 검사는 뼛속 골수를 채취하는 골수검사로 진행된다.

치료방법에는 항암 화학요법으로 골수 내에 백혈병 세포를 제거하는 치료법과 만성 백혈병 환자들이 받는 다양한 약물 치료와 조혈 모세포 이식 등의 치료법이 있다. 다양한 치료방법 중 의사의 진단과 환자의 상태에 가장 적합한 치료법이 진행된다.

백혈병은 나이와 성별과 관계없이 누구에게나 발병할 수 있으며 다양한 초기 증상이 존재한다. 먼저 혈액 세포의 증식이 억제되어 정상적인 백혈구, 적혈구, 혈소판이 감소되면 면역력 감소로 인한 패혈증, 적혈구 감소로 인한 빈혈과 두통, 혈소판 감소로 인한 출혈이 발생될 수 있다. 반대로 혈액 세포의 증식이 과도해지면, 고열, 피로, 설사, 의식 저하 등의 증상이 발견될 수 있다. 심하게는 체중 감소, 뼈 통증, 구토, 뇌출혈 등의 증상이 있을 수 있다.

이 모든 증상들은 평소에도 사람들에게 자주 있는 증상들이기 때문에 가볍게 넘길 수 있다. 하지만 백혈병은 치료를 받지 않고 방치한다면 90% 정도가 사망하게 된다. 그렇기 때문에 자신의 증상이 백혈병 초기 증상으로 의심된다면 병원에 가보기를 추천한다.
