Asian Hate Crime

Asian-Americans are being attacked. As the world develops, the quality of treatment is getting worse. Not only Asian Hate, but only a few months ago was the Black Lives Matter movement. Especially in the United States with huge racial diversity, racial discrimination is common. As a Korean myself, Asian Hate crime in the United States is shocking. Asian Hate Crimes these days, especially after the protest that had occurred in the United States. Asians are getting assaulted only because they are “Asians''. Outraged by all the assaults, a movement, which speaks for the Asians, has begun. A clear punishment given to crimes related to Asian Hate Movement should be made.
So What is happening to the United States after all?

The United States has five main racial categories: White or European America, Black or African American, Asian American, Indian American or Alaska Native, or Hawaiian Native. Many perpetrators of the Asian Hate crime did not declare how they were racially motivated. Having Asians as a big part of the population, it is visible how the hate comes from being easily targeted.

While diverse races have mingled together from long ago, there still is an insurmountable social gap between the whites and the other minority races. Asian-Americans go through all sorts of discrimination such as having their possessions taken or being called  “a racial slur”  “mask ripped off, being “verbally accosted”, being “called a racial slur and blocked from exiting a parking lot.” These are only a few examples of antagonism that Asian Americans underwent. All this bitterness that the Asians need to go through shows how they are at the bottom of society (especially in the United States.

The COVID-19 pandemic even worsened the status quo of Asian citizens. With the pandemic being started in Wuhan, China, not only the US but the world does not have a good view towards China or Asians in general. Last March, the former US president, Donald Trump, labeled the virus as the “Chinese virus”, implying all the blame of the virus on China. Due to the statement that the president had made, the Asian American “businesses that were already devastated” by the privation of the pandemic took to the second financial hit due to the “discrimination” that they had experienced.

African Americans were previously discriminated against, and now it is the Asian- Americans. Discrimination in the United States will never stop. While the Anti-Asian Hate movement is gaining support, discrimination for any race will not stop as long as the systems in place remain.
