Netflix, Zoom, delivery apps, don’t these apps sound familiar to you? All of these are apps that most of us use after Covid-19 changed our lives. Severe lockdowns have caused us to stay at home more than we have ever had. As a result, many people did not have social interactions for a very long time and in this period of dormant interactions, people seek this new universe, called Metaverse. Metaverse is a virtual world that exists beyond our current “real” world. In other words, it is a digital world.

Then what are some examples of the Metaverse? The movie Ready Player One is a perfect example of a metaverse. The protagonists are in a digital world that is like the analog world. The players percept the digital world as the real world and make their communities. Games like Fortnite, Roblox, and Animal Crossing are all examples of the metaverse. Users socialize with other users in the gaming world and create relationships. The demand for metaverse greatly increased after Covid-19 caused lockdowns. People hope to socialize in these virtual worlds and create communities. What is more, companies like Facebook are investing in the development of the metaverse because of the rising number of people seeking it.

Another example of a metaverse is blockchain. Blockchain is essentially digital money and although digital money does not exist physically, many people invest in cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin, Bitcoin, Etherium, etc. Etherium is a currency of a virtual world called Decentraland, where people invest in the lands of that virtual world. Like the real world, there are music concerts, art exhibits, and casinos, all of which are paid through the digital currency, Etherium. One might think that they are not participating in the metaverse, but metaverse exists in more places than we think.

Metaverse is clearly on the rise. But all of this might just be a bubble. As technology advances, the metaverse is continuously developing. No one knows where this is going, but one thing is for sure. Metaverse is going to change the world.
