Ever Since the UN climate change conference in 2018, the world has noticed the issues of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 emissions). Although many human activities can be reasons why earth is suffering from greenhouse gas, transportation causes the most greenhouse gas emissions.

For example, according to Statista's Global Consumer Survey, 86 percent of American commuters use their own car to move between home and work, making it by far the most popular way of commuting. Only 10 percent of the 1,681 respondents use public transportation. This means that about 96% of U.S. citizens use personal cars or public transportation to move between home and work.

Internal combustion engine vehicles, also known as gasoline vehicles, are what most people drive and ride these days. Noticing that issue, Tesla quickly boosted their market in electric cars and started hiring more electrical engineers to secure their market dominance. However, other automakers started their own electric car business to catch up to Tesla’s sales.

Even companies like Ferrari announced their new plan for electric cars.
The rise in electric car sales in 2020 came even as the worldwide automobile market contracted by 16% because of the coronavirus pandemic. In the first quarter of 2021, electric car sales were almost two and a half times higher than during the same period in 2020.

Recently, Hyundai Motor released the Ioniq 5 model and set a phenomenal record of selling about 24,000 units on the first day of pre-order. At the same time as the EV6 model was released, about 21,000 units were sold on the first day of the pre-order. This is an example of the growing public interest in electric vehicles.

Experts are seeing an increasing trend for the electric vehicle market and are estimating them to exceed the gasoline market in 2040. They predict that gasoline and hybrid cars will slowly die out when the electrical business shows continuous growth. Experts also note that the main reason for this trend is not only because of the eco-friendly part but also because of their cost. Electric cars may be more expensive than gasoline cars, but when fueling is accounted for, electric cars are way cheaper to fuel. For these reasons, we could predict the era of electric vehicles.

가솔린 차량으로도 알려진 내연기관 차량은 오늘날 대부분의 사람들이 운전하고 타는 차량이다. 이 문제를 인식한 Tesla는 전기 자동차 시장을 빠르게 확대하고 시장 지배력을 확보하기 위해 더 많은 전기 엔지니어를 고용하기 시작했다. 또한 기존 자동차 회사들도 전기 자동차 사업을 시작했으며 빠르게 신모델을 출시하며 Tesla를 추격하기 시작했다. 심지어 Ferrari 조차 전기차 모델을 만든다고 발표했다.

코로나19 확산으로 전 세계 자동차 시장이 16% 위축되었지만, 2020년 전기자동차 시장만은 증가했다. 그리고 2021년 1분기 전기차 판매량은 2020년 같은 기간보다 거의 2.5배 더 높아졌다.

최근 현대 자동차는 Ioniq5 모델을 출시함과 동시에 사전계약 첫째 날 약 2만 4천 대를 판매하는 경이로운 기록을 세웠으며 기아자동차도 EV6 모델을 출시함과 동시에 사전계약 첫째 날 약 2만 1천 대를 판매했다. 이는 전기차에 대한 대중의 관심이 많아지고 있음을 보여주는 예이다.

전문가들은 전기자동차 시장의 증가 추세를 보고 있으며 2040년쯤 가솔린 시장을 능가할 것으로 예상하고 있다. 그들은 전기 사업이 지속적으로 성장할 때 가솔린과 하이브리드 자동차가 서서히 사라질 것으로 예측한다. 전문가들은 또한 이러한 추세의 주된 이유는 친환경적인 부분뿐만 아니라 비용 때문이라고 지적한다. 전기자동차는 휘발유 자동차보다 차량 가격은 비쌀 수 있지만 연료 공급을 고려할 때 전기자동차는 연료 비용이 훨씬 저렴하다. 이러한 이유로 전기자동차의 시대가 가까워지고 있다는 것을 예측할 수 있다.
