Having many worries behind it, the Tokyo Olympics has ignited and sadly, there was no audience to cheer for the athletes but only cameras here and there to forecast the game live at the stadium.

While the Tokyo Olympics 2020 has been a source of concern, it has also generated a lot of excitement. However, because of the increasing number of COVID cases, many countries were unable to attend. Even preparing for the game, if an athlete has tested to be positive, that country is compelled to forfeit the game.

The athletes are becoming infected one by one, rendering them unable to participate in the game. For example, an American player named Coco Gauff tested positive for the virus, forcing her to withdraw from the Olympics to avoid further consequences. What’s worse, she isn’t the only one. The number of instances is steadily increasing. According to the Tokyo Media Center, there were a total of 1979 new positive cases. With the numbers climbing at such a frightening rate, it's easy to see how athletes could become infected at any time.

However, this year’s Olympic being an Olympic in almost 5 years, the athletes are trying their best to earn the gold medal for the country. Take the archery player An San for example. Even though she was the youngest player in the women's team, she achieved one of the highest scores on the squad, leading the team to victory.

The best avoidance of the pandemic is to receive the vaccination. So, did all the athletes receive their vaccinations before coming to the game? While 90 percent of the athletes were satisfied with the fact how they were being vaccinated before the game, some players were quite worried about the negative side effects that the vaccines may give. As being vaccinated isn’t a requirement, the players still can participate if they are not vaccinated. The question of how the Olympics will continue during the COVID-19 outbreak has captivated everyone's interest.

코로나19 팬데믹 중에 개최된 도쿄 올림픽

코로나19 팬데믹으로 인해 많은 걱정을 안고 있던 도쿄 올림픽이 개최되었다.
슬프게도 텅 빈 경기장에는 선수들을 응원하는 관중들이 없었고. 경기 생중계를 위한 카메라만 군데 군데 있을 뿐이었다.
2020 도쿄 올림픽은 전 세계의 큰 걱정거리였지만, 모두에게 큰 흥분이기도 했다. 다만, 계속 확산되는 코로나-19로 인해 참석하지 못한 나라가 있는 것이 사실이다. 경기 준비에도 양성반응이 나오면 해당 국가는 부전승을 안게 된다.

선수들이 하나둘 감염되어 경기에 나서지 못하고 있다. 예를 들어, 미국 선수인 코코 가우프는 코로나 바이러스에 양성 반응을 보였고, 이로 인해 그녀는 올림픽에 출전하지 않았다. 그녀뿐만이 아니라 코로나에 걸려 경기에 출전하지 못하는 사례가 증가하고 있다. 도쿄 미디어 센터가 제공한 숫자에 따르면 1979개의 새로운 코로나-19 사례가 생겼다. 이처럼 무서운 속도로 숫자가 늘어나는 상황에서 선수들도 언제 어떤 감염에 걸릴지 모른다

하지만 이같은 사실에도 불구하고, 선수들은 5년 만에 돌아온 올림픽에서 나라를 위해 금메달을 따기 위해 최선을 다하고 있다. 양궁 선수 안산을 예로 들어보자. 여자부 최연소인 그녀는 첫번째 올림픽 출전이라는 사실에도 불구하고 팀 내 최고 득점 중 하나를 기록하며 팀을 승리로 이끌었다.

전염병 예방책은 예방접종을 받는 것이다. 그러면, 모든 선수들이 경기에 오기 전에 예방접종을 받았는가? 선수 90%는 경기 전 예방접종을 받는다는 사실에 만족했지만 일부 선수들은 백신이 줄 수 있는 부작용에 대해 상당히 우려했다. 예방접종은 필수조건이 아니지만 예방접종을 받지 않으면 참가가 불가능하다.

코로나-19 대유행 기간 동안 올림픽을 계속하면서, 올림픽이 과연 잘 마무리 될 수 있을지에 대한 사람들의 의문이 늘고 있다.
