Cnidarians, sometimes called coelenterate, are mostly made up of marine creatures. Most cnidarians live in tropical waters. All cnidarians are radially symmetrical. This phylum is composed of Hydrozoa, Scyphozoa, Anthozoa, and Cubozoa. Jellyfish belong to the class Scyphozoa.
These creatures are considered to have existed for about 500 million years on the planet. Its stinging cells are their most well-known feature. Another astonishing skill, on the other hand, has piqued the interest of researchers. Many people have been fascinated to them because of their ability to regenerate. Jellyfish have the amazing capacity to repair their complete bodies.
Although regeneration speed can vary between individuals, moon jellyfish can restore their symmetry in four days. The research was done on the correlation between cell proliferation and food supply. This research found that if food supply was limited, jellyfish would gradually decrease in body size.
This amazing property may be able to be used in medical technology for the treatment of humans. Research is done to find which genes are active in the process of regeneration and the mechanism used by jellyfish to restore their body parts. With more information, scientists will be able to apply the knowledge to the invention of various technologies for human medical care.
