Health has always been a big issue in human history, causing a slew of catastrophic, once-in-a-lifetime catastrophes that lasted even longer than a millennium in the history books. From the Black Death and smallpox to modern-day COVID-19, public health crises have swept the globe, leading people to fear and perish whether they expected it or not. As a result, we are seeing a growing emphasis on the importance of elements like foods and exercise in modern society, although other researchers argue that these factors are easily neglected due to the public's increased attention on lookism.

The term lookism refers to a social phenomenon in which people are psychologically getting more and more focused and concerned in the way they are viewed by others. Excessive care for their appearance, thus inducing more consumption of makeup and plastic surgery, is a representative example of it.

At first glance, it may appear that there is no link between such a psychological phenomenon and public health. However, there is a strong link between the two. The first is the rising popularity of cosmetic surgery and makeup. Each year, about a quarter of a million plastic surgical procedures are performed, and the cosmetic sector as a whole is growing at a 4.5 percent annual rate. These operations cause a slew of health problems, including: Hematoma, seroma, blood loss, eye infection, and other conditions can occur. In addition, due to the accelerating focus on appearance usually entails an excessive diet, it leads to nutrients deficiency which further results in innumerous bad health consequences.

Even though the effect of lookism on health is not considered today, it is continuously burgeoning. We all must keep awareness of this social phenomena
