Quantum Computing: What is it and How is it Used?

“Quantum computing will change the world.”

We hear the phrase "quantum computing" a lot, but most of us have no idea what it means. Quantum computing is a type of computation that makes use of quantum physics to boost efficiency and performance. So, what exactly is quantum mechanics? Quantum mechanics is a physics theory that describes how the universe works on a scale smaller than atoms. Quantum computing uses this principle to make computers perform faster calculations and tackle issues that were previously impossible to solve.

Where does quantum computing come into play? IBM is a pioneer in the field of quantum computing. They have currently built several quantum computers that are available to businesses in need of quick processes. Mercedes-Benz, a German luxury automobile manufacturer, employs quantum computing technology to develop better batteries for electric vehicles. Because electric automobiles are becoming more popular, enhanced quantum technology will be extremely beneficial to the automobile sector.

Quantum computing uses quantum mechanics to operate. But why does quantum mechanics speed up computation? Because quantum computing uses units smaller than atoms, the computer system can represent these enormous problems in massive multidimensional regions. The computers then employ quantum wave interference methods to locate solutions in this realm and convert them back to human-readable forms. Grover's search is an example of a quantum computing algorithm. When searching for n items in a list, a quantum computer only needs to check sqrt(n) items, but a classical computer will check n/2 items. Like this, quantum computers are surpassing supercomputers in terms of performance, and we are facing the world of quantum computers.

Soon enough, quantum computers will be the main computing system that would perform most operations and provide solutions to unsolved problems.
