Summer is a season of relaxation for many people who like participating in outdoor activities. Appropriate skin protection should be taken, especially if the skin is exposed to bright sunlight for several hours because of increasing outdoor activity. Even though clouds appear to cover sun rays on overcast days, we must still be mindful of ultraviolet (UV) rays since clouds do not filter UV radiation.

UV rays are the strongest between 11 am and 2 pm on a clear and sunny day, so it is recommended to limit outdoor activities as much as possible during this period. It is critical to take necessary measures if you must be outside during this period. Wearing wide-brimmed sun hats and sunglasses is the greatest way to physically block UV radiation. It is critical to protect yourself from the sun by wearing long-sleeved shirts and UV-protected jeans.

If physical blocking of UV radiation is not practicable, sunscreens are the next best option. The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) and UV protection grade of A should be considered while selecting a sunscreen (PA). It is suggested to use a product with SPF 30 and PA++ or higher for extended outdoor exercise or sports, and reapplication of sunscreen is required if sweating occurs.

After exposure to sunlight, it is recommended that you take a cool shower to cool down your skin and recuperate from the heat and discomfort. Because UV irradiation can also dry up the skin, it's a good idea to use a moisturizer.

Sunlight can be misconstrued as having solely a negative effect, such as sunburn, skin aging, or skin cancer. Adequate solar exposure, on the other hand, is required and offers health benefits. Sun exposure is necessary for the skin to produce vitamin D, which regulates the immune system and bone formation. Sun exposure also aids in the management of mood disorders. As a result, unless the sun is exceptionally strong, it is not advisable to cover all exposed skin regions.

Finally, certain sunscreen chemicals are known to have negative environmental consequences. As a result, rather than using sunscreen, it is preferable to physically block the sun.
