With the average number of jobs held in a lifetime reaching a staggering 12, it is safe to assume that changing occupations is not only common but also essential. Even though changing employment is tough, "staying in the same position for a long time might cost people thousands of dollars with little meaningful gain in terms of job stability" (Doyle). Changing employment can be motivated by a variety of factors, including a desire for more salary, a shift in professional emphasis, or the desire for more exciting work.

Regardless of the reasons for the shift, numerous sources advocate for changing careers rather than remaining in the same work for the remainder of one's life. One allegory, Who Moved My Cheese, also supports this alteration. This narrative is set in a maze, which reflects the entire environment in which we live, as well as all of the challenges we face as members of this society. The cheese represents our wishes, and this narrative depicts how the cheese and the maze evolve. Even though it might be terrifying at times, how well we accept and adapt to such changes is critical to going forward in life.

People might protest or be distressed for a long time over a sudden change, especially if it was something out of their control, such as Hem and Haw, who felt deceived when their "old cheese" was taken away. Hem eventually seeks a fresh beginning after exhausting their energy and waiting for the 'old cheese' to return, while Hem remains locked in the past. However, just like Sniff and Scurry, it is sometimes necessary for us to confront the new rather than cling to the 'old cheese,' by being adaptable to new developments and either embracing them and moving on or devising a new solution.
