The Former Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Liberal Democratic Party, Shinzo Abe, was assassinated as he was giving a speech on the street in Nara City. The killer responsible for Abe’s death is a 41-year-old man named Tetsuya Yamagami.
Tetsuya Yamagami assassinated Abe by shooting him twice in the neck with a shotgun he built all by himself. Although security was too late to save Abe’s life, they were able to apprehend Yamagami before he escaped. Tetsuya Yamagami stated that the reason he killed Shinzo Abe was that he held a grudge against an organization he believed Abe was connected to called ‘The Unification Church.’ It was discovered that Yamagami’s mother had been donating to this church even though she had barely any money. Because Yamagami’s mother has frequently been donating, Tetsuya Yamagami and his family were suffering from ruined family finances. This atrocity caused Yamagami’s father to commit suicide, and his mother still kept going to the church while donating smaller amounts of money.
Once Tetsuya Yamagami was arrested, police officers decided to investigate the murderer’s house. There they found other various handmade weapons that were soon taken into custody. The police also told residents to evacuate the area for their safety. The police recently found out that Yamagami had been planning this assassination for 20 years and learning how to make weapons for over a year after he and his remaining family members became bankrupt. They also found out that Tetsuya Yamagami was a member of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), which explains his talent for handcrafting military weapons.
