Cancer is a fatal disease where the body’s cells grow uncontrollably. Over 18 million people have been diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and there is a high number of deaths annually occurring from cancer. Cancer ranges from different types to regions and anyone can get it.
Cancer that begins in the prostate is called prostate cancer. This cancer is the second leading type of cancer diagnosed in men worldwide. Prostate cancer accounts for about 7.8% of cancers and with every man at risk for diagnosis, prostate cancer rates have led experts to find cures and therapy. Prostate cancer patients typically receive treatment ranging from surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
Thanks to a surgical robot, a typical 5-7 day stay at a hospital dropped to a mere 24-hour recovery period after prostate cancer surgery. At Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, surgeons perform robotic prostatectomy procedures to remove cancerous tissues in patients.

The benefit of this procedure is providing smaller incisions in the patient’s abdomen to decrease recovery periods while lessening pain and bleeding. It also enables surgeons to operate with high levels of control and precision.
Cambridge University Hospital’s consultant surgeon Ben Lamb mentioned how beneficial this procedure is as it reduces the recovery period taking place in the hospital to provide more space for other patients to come in. Innovations like these robots give hope while providing efficient treatment to cancer patients and provide ease for medical experts in the hospital. With hopes of continuous innovations being made, different technological treatments are being observed and developed.
