While this is true, it is also important to keep in mind that reactionary politicians have been making a lot of noise lately and are sometimes mistaken for conservatives although their ideas are very different from theirs in terms of intensity. On the far right of the political attitude spectrum, reactionaries are similar to conservatives in that they are opposed to progressive societal development. Reactionaries, on the other hand, hold that the existing system is fundamentally defective and that the only route for betterment is the restoration of the former political orders or institutions, in contrast to conservatives who accept the current order and feel that social reform is unnecessary.
