The beloved children’s franchise, Winnie the Pooh, created by The Walt Disney Company, has been turned into a horror film.
“Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” is about a boy named Christopher Robins who stopped visiting Pooh and his friends as he got older. This abandonment causes Christopher’s anthropomorphic friends to revert to their animalistic instincts, turning them feral. When he came back to Pooh’s home, 100 Acre Woods, to introduce his wife to his old friends, he saw that 100 Acre Woods had been neglected, giving off an unpleasant atmosphere. Becoming concerned, Christopher tries to find his friends with his wife, but they are then killed by Pooh and Piglet. The story then takes place in a vacation house where a group of female friends decides to stay. Suddenly, Pooh and Piglet appear, killing the group of friends one by one.

The director of this movie, Rhys Waterfield, was able to make this movie due to Disney’s losing exclusive ownership rights to the popular children’s book characters. According to the United States copyright law, depending on whichever comes first, any work will become usable in the public domain 95 years after its first publication or 120 years after its creation. Since the Winnie the Pooh franchise was created in 1926, Disney’s exclusive copyright of the Winnie the Pooh characters and stories has ceased.
This movie shows an interesting anecdote regarding the law related to the exclusive copyright of certain characters and stories. Who could imagine such a beloved children’s book character like Winnie the Pooh becomes a cold-blooded murderer in a newly created film?
