The first official World Cup goes back to 1930, hosted in Uruguay. This initial idea of having an international football tournament was from Jules Rimet, president of FIFA, the world’s football governing body. Now and then, the World Cup is held every fourth year.

The 2022 World Cup will be hosted in Qatar, one of the countries located on the Middle East continent. This World Cup will be hosted from November 20 to December 18. For countries to participate in this tournament, they first have to go through the regionals divided by continents. Since there are many countries, they first must go through their regional qualifiers and receive a ‘ticket’ to play in the World Cup. After all the final-round teams are chosen, they are again split into eight pools. The first two teams with the highest score in their collection then move to round 16. Then again, round 8. Next to round 4. Lastly, the finals. Some past winners of this tournament are Russia, Italy, Brazil, Germany, England, Spain, and Argentina.

This World Cup has caught the attention of soccer fans because some top players have mentioned that this might be the last World Cup of their career. Some of the best players are known for their skills and dedication to the team. Lionel Messi received 8 Ballon D’or awards which are only awarded to the best soccer player of the year and the captain of Argentina. Cristiano Ronaldo, who received 6 Ballon D’or awards and was the captain of the Portugal national team. Luka Modric is also a Ballon D’or receiver and the captain of the Croatia national team.

We are not only to care about the results of the game but also to celebrate these players’ successes they have made in their careers in and outside of the World Cup. They are legends that will remain in World Cup history.
