Have you guys used Netflix or other OTT platforms before? Before the Pandemic, it was hard to find people using Netflix to watch TV shows and movies. But now, the circumstances have changed, and people prefer Netflix to the movie theater. According to an online survey from Dartmouth, only 41% of people go to see movies. 

The reason why people prefer Netflix more is because of the increase in theater ticket prices. For example, now I’m studying at Thornton Academy, Saco, Maine. We have a movie theater called Apple movie theater, and before the Pandemic, an apple movie theater ticket was ten dollars. Now we must pay eighteen dollars to watch the movie. However, on Netflix, we only have to pay 9.99 dollars per month, and we can watch more than 1,000 movies and series.

Moreover, I don’t need to go to the theater because most films, especially those that are unsuccessful at the box office, can be watched on Netflix or other platforms a month later. For instance, Bullet train, starring Brad Pitt, was unsuccessful; after a month, it is available on Netflix. 

We have other reasons too. Some films only released on Netflix are just as good or even better than the ones in the theatre. For example, All Quiet on the Western Front is one of my favorite movies ever, and this movie has only been released on Netflix. Moreover, All Quiet on the Western Front has been nominated for five awards in Academy awards, meaning that Netflix movies are also very competitive with other films. 

Movie theaters are facing a crisis, but there are still many movies going to release, and this could be a chance to relieve the situation of movie theaters.
