Microbiome, a colony of cells of microscopic sizes, naturally lives inside humans and significantly enhances health and well-being. The human body has different communities of microbes, such as skin, intestinal, and oral cavities. 

Developed at the early stages of life, microbial growth depends on and adapts to elements, including nutrition intake and environmental conditions. Specific to each individual, microbes contribute to digestion, both protection against and occurrence of diseases, development of the immune system, and maintenance overall. With the rise in interest of domestic microbiome companies, they are challenging clinical trials for treating intestinal diseases.

For instance, last year Ferring International Center (Switzerland) microbiome treatment 'Leviota,' a drug used to treat Clostridioides Difficile, was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Unlike intestinal disease medications, which were previously dosed by mouth, Leviota was suggested to administer directly to the large intestine after collecting microbes from the feces. Likewise, as domestic microbiome research companies are challenging new emerging fields, they look to tackle brain diseases such as Alzheimer's disease in their clinical trials as well in the future. 

A South Korean Biotechnology company named Genome & Company announced their current research regarding the potential of microbiome in the field of anti-cancer using pre-released immuno-anticancer drugs. In fact, according to Naver News, the interim results of the second phase clinical trials, in combination with Pfizer's immune anti-cancer drug 'Bavencio', will be released later this year.
