Most prestigious universities in the United States have a so-called legacy preference system. It is a system that gives priority to the families of their alumni. Controversy over this system continues.

It is common to find people who have succeeded in entering universities through the contribution admission system. About 10 to 15 percent of Ivy League first-year students are admitted to a contribution system. Some presidents have succeeded in college admissions on a contributing admission system: John F. Kennedy, George W. Bush, and the Trump family.

The contribution system was created by white Protestants who were traditionally mainstream and upper-class in the United States. As Jewish and Catholic admissions to universities increased, they created this system to protect their interests. Over time, the system has become a model in favor of rich and well-connected whites, resulting in discrimination against poor, international, and Asian students who are far from the system. A Duke University study found that white students entering through the contribution admission system are five times more likely to pass on average than ordinary students.

On the other hand, some people are in favor of the contribution system. Their logic is that the benefits given to them will encourage them to make more donations, which will result in more scholarship benefits for poor students. In conclusion, accepting one contribution can help several students ease the burden of tuition fees.
