Stem cells are unspecialized cells that can be developed and improved into specialized cells in the body. These cells help the body with the growth and repair of body tissues. Some of these cells can include blood cells, muscle cells, and nerve cells lost during an injury or an illness. There are currently three different types of stem cells. The embryonic stem cells can transform into any cell in the body. Adult stem cells can replace and repair damaged tissues, and pluripotent stem cells can imitate and behave like other embryonic stem cells. These three types of stem cells grasp the idea of developing themselves into specialized cells supporting the body.

The benefit of a stem cell is the ability to transform into any cell and repair the ones that have been damaged. Because of these benefits, medical researchers think that stem cells might have a massive impact on treating patients. 

Through these benefits come high risks to the use of stem cells. These disadvantages include the high use/ damage of embryonic stem cells. These embryonic stem cells are human-produced, which elevates the ethical questions regarding these experiments. Not only that, there are still unproven treatments for these stem cells. Some of these treatments are currently being experimented on and still need to be developed to be safe and effective. 

Although stem cells are yet to be released/ used in the medical field, they will significantly impact human health when they are stable and safe enough to be used. Overall, the technology itself is futuristic and expected to change the pace of treatment medically towards human bodies vastly.
