South Korea and North Korea share a common ethnicity, language, and culture, but their responses to COVID-19 have been significantly different. South Korea has prevented an economic recession while keeping its borders open and cities functioning without lockdowns. On the other hand, North Korea immediately closed its borders and banned all international flights, severely damaging its economy. These differences are related to the two countries' trade and public health systems.

South Korea's highly export-oriented trade system has played a crucial role in its rapid economic growth. South Korea has intensely focused on several types of trade agreements with other countries to promote international trade. In contrast, North Korea has a closed and isolated trade system, except for its trade with China. Other countries in the region have policies to stop trading with North Korea, making China the country's only trading partner.

South Korea has well-developed public health system and has implemented extensive COVID-19 testing, tracing, and treatment programs. In contrast, North Korea has a limited public health infrastructure with a lack of medical resources and personnel and limited access to advanced medical technologies. Additionally, North Korea's closed and isolated state policy has made it challenging for international aid organizations to assist in public health crises.

In conclusion, the differences in trade and public health systems between South Korea and North Korea have significantly impacted their responses and results related to COVID-19. South Korea's export-oriented trade system and well-developed public health system have allowed it to handle COVID-19 stably and prevent an economic recession. In contrast, North Korea's closed and isolated state policy, dependence on China for trade, and limited public health infrastructure have resulted in a challenging COVID-19 situation and severe economic damage.
