You may have heard the words psychopath and Sociopath in news, articles, or everyday life. People often confuse these two words. People also think these two words are diagnostic results. But doctors don't officially diagnose people as psychopaths or sociopaths. They use the term antisocial personality disorder (ASPD).

Antisocial personality disorder refers to a personality disorder that ignores and infringes on the rights of others and shows repeated violations, lies, fraud, aggression, and irresponsibility. Psychopaths and sociopaths are a type of antisocial personality disorder. What is the difference between a psychopath and Sociopath? When diagnosing a disease, scholars who focus on adjustable social and environmental factors prefer to use the term sociopath. On the other hand, scholars interested in genetic and neurological factors and social and environmental factors try to use the term psychopath.

Perhaps you would define a psychopath and a sociopath as someone who can kill people without guilt, someone who would not mind criminal activity for his own benefit. Actually, to some extent, these definitions are correct. According to Naver's Korean Dictionary, psychopath refers to a personality disorder that ignores or violates the rights of others throughout life. And then, Sociopath refers to a person who does wrong by any means for their success and has no "conscience" about it. These are also called antisocial personality disorders. Usually, they are latent inside but only revealed through crime, so people around you do not notice it. According to Webmd, in general, psychopaths and sociopaths have these characteristics.

Psychopath :
-Insincere charm
-Getting easily bored
-Compulsive lying
-Manipulation of others
-No remorse or guilt
-Little emotional reaction
-Cruelty without feeling bad about it
-Taking advantage of others
-Behavior problems that start in childhood
-Failure to accept responsibility
-Many sexual relationships

 Sociopath:
-Lack of empathy for others
-Impulsive behavior
-Attempting to control others with threats or aggression
-Using intelligence, charm, or charisma to manipulate others
-Not learning from mistakes or punishment
-Lying for personal gain
-Showing a tendency to physical violence and fights
-Generally superficial relationships
-Sometimes, stealing or committing other crimes
-Threatening suicide to manipulate without the intention to act
-Sometimes, abusing drugs or alcohol
-Trouble with responsibilities such as a job, paying bills, etc.

To summarize the differences between the two with these characteristics, sociopaths are cases where personality disorders occur due to a lot of environmental influences during the growth process, and they are different from psychopaths in that they recognize crimes. However, psychopaths are born with antisocial personality disorder tendencies, so genetic and biological aspects are more emphasized.
