The man who opened the emergency exit of the airplane arrested On May 26th, an emergency door opened just before Asiana Airlines’ plane landed at Daegu Airport. There were 194 passengers, including 38 youth players, who would participate in an athletic competition for youth in Ulsan. No one got injured, but nine passengers felt difficulty breathing, transferred to a hospital nearby. 

The man who opened the door was the passenger who sat right next to the exit door. The airline company announced that the man tried to open the door by force, and after the landing, the crew members arrested him and handed over the man to the cops. The prosecution prosecuted the man on the charge of Aviation Security Law. According to the law, a person who hinders the security and operation of an aircraft or manipulates doors, etc., may be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. 

Asiana Airlines and the prosecution also prosecuted the man on the charge of breaking the exit door of the airplane. The estimated value for fixing the door is expected to be 640 million won. 

Asiana Airlines announced it would stop selling seats next to emergency exits on the same aircraft that was involved in the accident. Under the current law, the seat next to the emergency exit is only allowed for a person who can assist the cabin crew in emergencies. However, this law is not working because everyone who pays extra payment can buy the seat without any verification. Aviation Industries points out that the accident should improve the practice of selling poor emergency exit seats.
